FAQ

What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is regarded by many to be the best self defence system around. We know Krav Maga works and it works under stress. All Krav Maga techniques are tried and tested in real-life situations: Krav Maga is the official fighting system of the Israeli Defence Force. When you learn Krav Maga you can rest assured you are learning techniques that are proven to work. Krav Maga is quick to learn and easy to retain. Krav Maga has no sporting applications, although there is a grading system for people who wish to monitor their own progress.

There are lots of different schools offering Krav Maga, how do I choose one?

Apart from practical considerations like location, it’s important you choose a school with a good pedigree and you choose a good instructor. How can you tell? A school with a good pedigree will be affiliated to one of the major global krav maga organisations. We are affiliated to Krav Maga Gobal (KMG) in Netanya, Israel. KMG have the very highest standards of training and ongoing professional development. Once they have passed a rigorous qualification programme instructors have to do a minimum number of days training a year with the KMG global instructor team, This is your insurance that the instructor you are training with has not done a crash course in krav maga, or once trained it in the army many years ago, but lacks the experience required for proper instruction. And that you are following a curriculum and examination system which has been rigorously assembled.

Is Krav Maga appropriate for kids?

Only if taught appropriately. Our instructors are taught and qualified in Israel to teach age appropriate material to kids. At the moment we are only teaching kids aged 11-16. Above that and you can join our adult courses. Below that and you’ll have to enquire about private tuition, or wait a while until we introduce more courses for different ages.

Why can’t I book for several students at once?

Our system recognises each student by their email address. And each student needs to complete a medical questionnaire confirming they are fit to train. So that means each booking needs to be separate and with a separate email address.

Can I have more guidance on what clothing and protective gear I need?

It is mandatory for all students of a Krav Maga Global organisation (of which we are one) to wear a KMG authorised t-shirt along with black pants. You can buy these from our store by going to the kit and clothing section of our website and choosing a basic or a protection pack. Or you can buy just the t-shirt from us, and buy black martial arts pants elsewhere. In addition, protective gear is highly recommended. Krav Maga is a full-contact activity and at the very least we would recommend a groin guard. Students also find that leg and arm guards protect from bruising and reduce the pain of impact. And a mouth guard protects the teeth. These can all be bought on our website too, as part of our protection pack, or obtained from sports shops online or the high street. If budget is an issue, beginner students could start with the basic uniform and groin protection and and then supplement this with further protection after the first few weeks of introductory training. Finally, in terms of footwear, we wear trainers in class apart from when working on matts in which case we wear matt shoes or bare feet.

Do I need insurance to train?
Complimentary insurance cover for your first 6 lessons is provided by our governing body. As you progress in training after week 6, we do recommend that you apply for a KMG Training Licence which will then cover you for the remainder of your course, any Krav Maga events your attend and the next courses you go on to do with us.
